Since my last update like this was back in January, I thought it might be a good time to provide another one. As always, thank you all so much for your support and encouragement! Included below are some family and ministry updates, a Substack update, and lots of pictures. Enjoy!
Family Updates
A pretty cold winter gave way to a gorgeous spring here in LaGrange.
Bristol and I got to take a field trip to the Kentucky Derby museum that was wonderful.
Rawling had a great softball season with wonderful coaches and teammates. It was really nice being back out at the ball field again.
For spring break, we took a trip up to Lake Michigan. Specifically, we visited New Buffalo, Michigan. While it was still chilly up that way, we did have plenty of opportunity to go outside and take in the lake’s beauty.
The summer has flown by so far. After a great week of VBS, we got to see family in Alabama, where we spent lots of time swimming, eating, laughing, and enjoying some good time together.
Ministry Updates
This spring I had the privilege of teaching on Philippians during our Wednesday night adult Bible studies. It was an inductive approach and it was such a joy to hear God’s people read, interpret, and apply God’s Word for themselves.
We also launched online “Lunch & Learns” this Spring. Once a month, I interview a guest on topics related to discipleship and outreach. Here’s one I did with Lance Beauchamp, Discipleship Pastor at City Church in Tallahassee, Florida. In our conversation, we talked about strategies for improving your daily Bible reading.
A few of the bigger projects that I’m working on this summer and would love your prayers for include:
Creating and finalizing a Philosophy & Practice of Global Missions for LBC.
Conducting an in-depth churchwide discipleship survey to assist our pastoral team in planning the future of discipleship ministries at LBC.
Preparing for teaching a course on “The World of the Old Testament” in the fall.
Launching a new men’s Bible study in September.
Substack Update
As the pace of ministry continues to pick up at LBC, I am making yet another adjustment to my writing schedule (This is like the 43rd time I’ve done this, right?).
I think it’s important I make this adjustment in order to fulfill all of my responsibilities as a husband, father, and pastor. So, moving forward, my new goal is to publish every other week OR two articles a month.
One will be for free subscribers and the other will be my normal, monthly Research Notes articles for paid subscribers.
If I can sneak in another article or two, then I’ll certainly do that. But I think this goal is more realistic for my current pace of life. I also think that slowing my writing pace down will help me to produce higher quality articles too, since I’ll have more time to engage more thoughtfully with the topics I’m writing on.
And that’s really my goal. I see this Substack as a way to minister the Word to the broader Church. And I want to do that well. That means writing fewer pieces that are richer with theological content. And I pray that my writing will prove to be a blessing to you!
Pictures!

Thank you for your writings.
Love seeing pictures! Beautiful children. You are a blessing to me!
May the Lord bless you, your family & your ministry.
